Over New Year's weekend we migrated a VM/ESA 2.4.0 system (heavy CMS app
usage) to z/VM 5.1 (sadly z/VM 5.2 showed up the day before migration --
too late to use it, but that's in progress starting Monday). We were
running on a z800 so we did not have to change hardware platforms
(although we had to set up another LPAR in which to test z/VM 5.1 since it
requires 64-bit addressing which VM/ESA could not provide).
