I would like to verify how a z/OS Guest would do a standalone dump. I think
you would do the following steps:

1) Hit the TERM BRKKEY (usually PA1) on the guest userid to get into CP.
2) Issue STORE STATUS to put info in low storage.
3) Enter: IPL 9000
where 9000 is the virtual address of the standalone dump.
No parms on the IPL statement.

Is this correct or am I missing a step?

Before you do the STORE STATUS you have to display and write down storage
locations X'0' to X'18'. The Stand-alone Dump IPL sequence overlays those
locations.

See the CP Planning and Administration manual, Chapter 13 "Using the Stand-
Alone Dump utility", section "Taking a Stand-Alone Dump" for the full
sequence, including steps required for multiprocessor systems.

Thanks for all the info. I did print off the latest manual. I did add one
thing in our environment. Since we run our z/OS guests with SET RUN ON, I
added a SET RUN OFF as the first command after dropping into CP. It worked
fine after that.
For the most part (you only missed step 4) your steps describe that found
in "z/VM: Running Guest Operating Systems" (SC24-6115-01) found at
http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/epubs/pdf/hcse7b10.pdf
"Chapter 5. Operating an MVS Virtual Machine", section "MVS Dumps".
IMHO, that's a good manual to have printed and personally annotated if you
are running MVS guests on VM.
